Get the Perfect Cheese on Gratins with a Butane Lighter

by Wendy Mallikarjunan

Creating the perfect gratins can be a tricky process. After all, the ones that you may find cooked by professionals were prepared with the best kitchen tools. However, you do not have to throw your hands up in exasperation. There are actually very easy ways that you can create the perfect gratins right in your own home with the use of your butane lighter.

Just think about what makes up the perfect gratins. Of course, the ingredients inside will be important, but one of the things that makes a gratin everything you expect it to be will be the top crust. That crust should be a unique combination of crispy and creamy. It should include perfectly thickly melted cheese along with perfectly browned bread crumbs. If you try to make this happen in an oven, chances are, it will not work well. Either the bread crumbs will get too brown or the cheese will not melt in the right way. Either way, you will be disappointed.

Step two will include preparing your topping. Make sure to use the type of shredded cheese that the recipe calls for and use sealed bread crumbs that will be fresh enough to crisp well. Once you mix the bread crumbs and the cheese, you will need to sprinkle it in a thick layer on the gratin. Be sure to cover the whole mixture well with the topping.

Finally, you will need to make sure to use the torch lighter to finish the topping of the gratin. Turn the torch lighter on high. You will need to apply intense, quick heat to the topping to melt the cheese quickly. Keep the torch lighter about two inches from the topping and try to keep the lighter the same distance from the topping at all times. Do not keep the torch on one area for very long or you could accidentally scorch the gratin, which will ruin it. Instead, keep the torch moving and keep moving it around the topping until two things happen. The cheese should start to bubble and the breadcrumbs should start to brown.

It can be quite difficult to create the perfect crunchy topping for gratins, but gratins are so tasty that you will definitely want to cook them whenever you can. If you make use of that kitchen butane lighter, you can create the perfect gratins that will include just the right amount of creamy thick cheese and toasted bread crumbs. Be sure you keep the lighter at a high heat and keep the butane lighter moving at all times to not scorch any of the topping, and you will be able to create a gratin that you will certainly love.
