Let's admit it, for most, the activity of metal detecting can be a passing fancy, a fad, one that ends usually, quicker compared to gloss in our shiny, new metal detectors. But, to the rare few, it's an awareness and passion that sticks with us basically for the rest of our lives.
Some of us who began out treasure hunting and metal detecting at a young age find this to be the reality. The passion just gets in your own bones early enough and you simply can't shake it.
Even though metal detecting usually undergoes a negative reputation or poor press-often misinterpreted by the community because of its solitary nature-with enthusiasts usually lumped together and stereotyped as generally safe and geekily weird, we are actually a variable bunch. Apart from falling into four several hunting groups: the mineral hunter, the beachcomber, the coin shooter, and the relic hunter; we're people that come from various walks of life. We've other interests aside from metal detecting and commonly, hold other jobs.
Exactly why are we so into the hobby? What's not to like? For those who really know what they are accomplishing, they could really-and do-earn some extra (literally) coin! Several of these coins that they've managed to locate have been worth an amount of money. But, that, to the true enthusiast, is gravy. That's simply a bonus. The incentive of the hobby will be the act itself. The excitement of being out there hunting to many of us, is reward in itself.
