methods for choosing a used car

There are pros and cons to purchasing a used car, therefore you should be cautious and educate yourself on what to look for when shopping around. Everyone knows that a new car loses quite a bit of value when you drive it off the dealership's lot, but you get the assurance that nothing is wrong with the car and you have nothing o worry about. When looking for a used car, you want to find one that will cause you the least amount of problems as possible. This article will help you build a checklist that you should use as the criteria for each used car you come across.

When browsing through used cars try looking at the newer ones. Everyone knows when you drive a new car of the lot it loses much of its value, so buying a newer used one can save you a lot of cash! If you look at cars that are within 3 years old they could possibly still have their 36,000 mile basic warranty coverage. Having this coverage will give you at least a good year of peace of mind knowing you can get the car fixed if it has any issues.

Another must do tip when buying a used car is having a mechanic inspect it before purchasing. This way you will know if there are any major issues with the car and allow you to be more at ease about buying the used car. If the owner of the vehicle doesn't allow you to get it inspected, take this as a fair warning! Chances are they are hiding something and don't want you finding out whatever could be wrong.

Along with getting your used car inspected, it's also wise to ask to see the cars service records. Typically if the car has one it's a good sign it has been taken care of. The service record will tell you if the car has had any major or odd repairs you should be wary about. If the car doesn't have these records you may want to be suspicious. Not having these records doesn't mean it's a bad car, but typically a good car owner will keep these for proof of proper upkeep when they are ready o sell.

A great way to find a used car with no major problems is to look into Certified, pre-owned cars (CPO). These are cars that usually have less than 50,000 miles and have had multipoint inspections. These cars are sold from used car dealerships; just make sure you go to more reputable ones. Certified cars can take a lot of the work and stress out of finding a car and I would highly recommend this method.
