The Way To Find The Right Chicago Photographer For A Wedding

Believe it or not, I'm about to reveal a super duper secret technique. Ok, not quite. But I am going to give you a strategy that's very common sense, and is something that you already intuit as being a great tactic. I am merely reminding you how important this is. I want you to go ahead and talk to everyone that you know, be they friends, neighbors, relatives or even complete strangers. Ask everyone you can if they can recommend a good photographer or a studio.
I mean otherwise this can be a very difficult task, because it requires hundreds of hours of reading interviews, reading up on how to recognize good professionals and other such things. When a name keeps being dropped by everyone you know - this is like a golden seal of approval.
If you're new to Chicago however, you might not have any local friends or family to ask around about this subject. If this is the case for you, then you will need to go old style. You will need to pop out that big yellow pages and start browsing.
Another more modern option are online reviews. The warning I would give you here is to note that reviews are only great in theory. In practice they don't work out too well because it's a lot easier to game the system. They are supposed to be the equivalent of having your friends recommend someone, but online it's very easy to put up fake positive reviews. The other problem is that sometimes you only get negative reviews. Basically people only post rants when they're just being negative people and it's not the photographer's fault. So online reviews aren't a realistic view of reality.
I would tell you to use both mediums. Take the yellow pages and online reviews to compile a list of photographers you might consider contacting. Then go ahead and contact each of these people to see how you like their sound over the telephone. When you find a half dozen that you like the sound of, go interview them in person.
